On 29 July 1994 the European Commissioner for Regional Policies, Mr. Bruce Millan, approved the first four operational programmes under the 1994-1999 Community Support Framework for Ireland. A total of ECU 1,530 million was awarded by the Community's Structural Funds. The four operational programmes concerned are: - Transport programme (ECU 888 million from the Regional Fund); - Tourist programme (ECU 456 million from the Regional and Social Funds); - Economic infrastructure covering postal services, energy and telecommunications (ECU 108 million from the Regional Fund); - Environmental infrastructure programme (ECU 78 million from the Regional Fund).
