The Community Support Framework for Ireland was formally launched in Dublin on 15 September 1994. It was attended by Mr. Bruce Millan, Commissioner responsible for regional policies. The Community Support Framework is an agreement concluded between the European Union and the Government of Ireland on the country's economic development priorities to be co-financed by the European Union's Structural Funds over the next six years. On 29 July 1994 the Commission approved four operational programmes in the fields of: - Transport (ECU 888 million from the Regional Fund); - Tourism (ECU 456 million from the Regional and Social Funds); - Economic infrastructure covering postal services, energy and telecommunications (ECU 108 million from the Regional Fund); - Environmental infrastructure (ECU 78 million from the Regional Fund). Mr. Millan presented an overview of the Community Support Framework and its positive impact on Ireland's economic and social situation. Under the INTERREG programme (1994-1999), the Community will continue to encourage cross-border economic cooperation and development in Ireland between the North and the South. Countries Ireland
