The Commission invites requests to participate in a study (June-October 1991) examining the environmental impact of the construction of the European network of high-speed trains and considering: The amount of land occupied and artificial barriers set up, air and noise pollution, energy consumption, organization and siting of economic activities. The study should include a comparative analysis of different transport modes, different construction specifications (new or upgraded lines, line links and extensions plus type of terrain traversed). It should also evaluate the network's contribution to improving the quality of life, looking ahead to the year 2010.Requests to participate should be sent to: Commission of the European Communities Directorate-General for Transport Attn.
