The European Commission, DG XI, has published a call for tender for the provision of a study with regard to the biotopes/ecosystems nomenclature. In the context of the Community's efforts to contribute to the conservation of biological diversity at global level, in particular as a support to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Commission intends to conclude a study contract for the adaptation and extension to a world scale of the CORINE-biotopes habitat typology. Specifically, the study should include: - Completing a general outline of the adaptation to a world scale of the CORINE-biotope typology developed in the CORINE-biotope manual (data specification, part 2, "Habitats of the European Community"), in accordance with the methodology outlined in the Council of Europe's Classification of Paleartic Habitats (T-PVS (94)1); - Applying this outline to selected regions, with first priority to South America.
