The European Commission's Directorate-General of Energy and Transport has published a call for tenders for the establishment of a European medical ALARA network (EMAN). The Commission would like to set up a stakeholders' network where different topics relating to implementation of the ALARA ('As low as reasonably achievable') principle in the medical field will be discussed and information exchanged. The network will support the Commission's activities relating to the protection of individuals exposed to medical radiation. In addition to being a forum for discussion, the network will include the following functions: - disseminating up-to-date information about literature, studies and good practices; - identifying needs for development and updating EU guidance and communicating proposals in this regard to the Commission; - making other proposals to the Commission for European harmonisation; - proposing solutions to the Commission for identified issues at EU level; - establishing contacts and cooperation with other international organisations and networks. Upon completion of the contract, the appropriate infrastructure and mechanisms will be established, enabling the continued operation of the network without further EC financial support. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General for Energy and Transport Attn.
