Informal Council meeting of Ministers responsible for planning
An informal Council meeting of Ministers responsible for planning will take place in Leipzig on 21-22 September 1994. The Ministers will discuss the plan for the development of the Community area, which aims to ensure the coherence and complementarity of Member States' policies on regional development and to coordinate the regional development and planning aspects of Community policy. Commissioner Bruce Millan will present a communication, entitled "Europe 2000+", setting out the results of research on cooperation for regional planning and development. The Ministers will examine the establishment of a European observatory on regional planning, in order to adopt a common approach to regional development in Europe. They will also discuss cooperation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in the framework of the INTERREG programme for interregional cooperation, financed by the PHARE programme.
