Renewable energy on show
An upcoming trade fair will highlight a European Commission initiative for achieving energy policy goals and targets in the fields of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, clean transport and alternative fuels. In its eleventh year, the International Trade Fair for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficient Building and Renovation (Renexpo) will showcase exhibitions on a variety of topics, with a special focus this year on bioenergy. The event will take place in Augsburg, Germany from 7 to 10 October 2010. Renexpo is a member of Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign is a European Commission initiative in the framework of the Intelligent Energy - Europe programme. The initiative aims to raise public awareness of sustainable energy production and use by individuals, companies, industry associations and non-governmental organisations and public authorities alike. Energy consumption in the European Union continues to rise, and Europeans are dependent on imported fossil fuels, which affect negatively the security of energy supply. This increase in the use of fossil fuels also has a negative environmental impact. Through the campaign, the EC is looking to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and slow down the process of global warming. As a member, Renexpo gets a number of benefits from the campaign, including a variety of promotional services and tools made available by the European Commission, as well as co-operation schemes between Sustainable Energy Partners. The Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign builds on other EC initiatives. Over the past ten years, a number of substantial EU programmes have sought to support sustainable energy actors, both in the field of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, develop concrete projects, to disseminate their achievements and results, and demonstrate the benefits of new technologies and tools. The fair is expected to attract interest from over 40 countries. It will cover the entire renewable energy market, from solar panels to geothermal energy, and from biomass to energy efficient buildings. One of the highlights of the event will be 'WoodEnergy', a section on heat and power generation from wood. It has garnered a reputation as the most significant trade fair in the sector. Cogeneration will also feature at the fair, with a space reserved for interested stakeholders to network and exchange ideas on latest developments in the field. There will also be a conference on small and micro cogeneration. Additionally, a number of conferences are planned to take place during the trade fair. The 10th International German Bioenergy Association Conference for Wood Energy will allow companies and professional individuals in the wood sector to exchange knowledge and develop new contacts. Other planned conferences include an event on small to medium wood gasification, an overview of the Italian energy efficiency market, a congress on small wind turbines and a congress on cities of the future. A special energy prize will be awarded at the trade fair to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the renewable energy sector.
