The European Commission has published a call for proposals of the European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion (ESPON) Programme.

This call for proposals applies to applied research projects, target analyses and projects under the ESPON Scientific Platform and transnational networking activities by the ESPON Contact Point Network. The topics under the applied research projects theme include:
- 'European Neighbour Regions';
- 'Small and Medium-sized Towns in their Functional Territorial Context';
- 'The Territorial Dimension of Poverty and Social Exclusion in Europe';
- 'Economic Crises: Resilience of Regions'.
The topics under the targeted analyses theme include:
- 'Growth Poles in South-East of Europe';
- 'Key Indicators for Territorial Cohesion and Spatial Planning';
- 'Liveable Landscapes for Sustainable Territorial Development';
- 'Landscape Policy for the Three Countries Park';
- 'North Sea - Spreading Transnational Results'.
The topics under the ESPON Scientific Platform include:
- 'EU Territorial Monitoring and Reporting';
- 'ESPON Atlas on European Territorial Structures and Dynamics';
- 'Detecting Territorial Potential and Challenges';
- 'Territorial Evidence Packs for ERDF Programmes';
- 'ESPON Online Mapping Tool';
- 'Territorial Monitoring in a European Macro Region - A Test for the Baltic Sea Region'.
Under the transnational networking activities by the ESPON Contact Point Network heading, there is one topic:
- 'Capitalisation Activities at the Transnational Level by the ESPON Contact Point Network'.

The European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion supports policy development in relation of territorial cohesion. It does this by providing comparable information, evidence, analyses and scenarios on territorial dynamics, and revealing territorial capital and potentials for development of regions and larger territories.
