The European Commission has published the Factories of the Future call for proposals. Worth EUR 230 million from the EU's 2013 budget, the call consists in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative. It aims to help EU manufacturing enterprises, in particular SMEs, to keep pace with increased global competition thanks to new technologies enabling the production of greener, more customised and higher quality products. Encompassing the NMP (Nanoscience, Nanotechnologies, Materials and New production Technologies) and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) themes, Factories for the future covers 13 topics ranging from improved use of renewable resources to people-centred production sites, human-robot interactive production and highly miniaturised components.
