The research project is coordinated by Prof. Slobodan Vukicevic and his team at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. It was launched in 2018 to improve therapeutic options for patients suffering from degenerative disc diseases by translating the patient's peripheral blood into extra-skeletal bone. The research is based on the results of the previous research project OSTEOGROW, where an autologous carrier and a biologically active human protein have been combined to enhance bone repair. In OSTEOproSPINE, this drug is reinforced with a biomechanical material to guide the formation of new bone tissue. In a Phase II clinical study, the consortium aims to prove the efficiency of the new solution in patients undergoing PLIF spinal surgery. The clip is available on the OSTEOproSPINE website (https://osteoprospine.eu/clip) and on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I4IJ65I9rE).
