Results of first call for proposals for RTD actions under the Environment and Climate programme
The first call for proposals for RTD actions for the specific programme for research, technological development and demonstration, in the field of environment and climate (1994-1998) was published on 17 January 1995. The first results of this call for proposals are now available. Projects submitted under the part of the call open for projects and concerted actions under themes 1 (research into the natural environment, environmental quality and global change), 2 (environmental technologies)and 4 (human dimensions of environmental change and under topic 3.1.1. (space: methodological research), and for which the deadline was set as 4 April 1995, are now in the process of being evaluated. The scientific evaluation of these proposals will be completed by mid-July. It is expected that approximately 20% of these will receive funding. The total number of proposals received was 1,607. These were divided among the topics covered as follows: - Basic processes in the climate system (57); - The climate system in the past (55); - Climate variability, simulation of climate and prediction of climate change (45); - Impact of climate changes and other environmental factors on natural resources (161); - Atmospheric physics and chemistry (129); - Biospheric processes (234); - Instruments, techniques and methods for monitoring the environment (71); - Methods for estimating and managing risks to the environment (190); - Analysis of the life cycle of industrial and synthetic products (8); - Technologies to protect and rehabilitate the environment (217); - Technologies to protect and rehabilitate European cultural heritage (58); - Technologies to forecast, prevent and reduce natural risks (141); - Space: methodological research (18); - Human dimensions of environmental change (223).
