In a decision of 19 July 1995, the Commission approved State aid to two German steel companies: Krupp Hoesch Stahl AG and Thyssen Stahl AG. Krupp Hoesch requested aid of ECU 15 million for the implementation of 11 R&D projects. Thyssen Stahl requested ECU 16 million for 51 related R&D projects. After technical evaluation of the projects in question, the Commission concluded that both the projects and the amount of aid requested (25% of total costs) were in line with the EU's framework for State aids for R&D.
