The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a call for tender for the development of a methodology for introducing electronic information provision training into university course curricula. This call follows on from the TRAIN-NFP and TRAIN-UNI projects launched under the Community's IMPACT 2 programme, in collaboration with the COMETT programme. These earlier projects were aimed at increasing awareness of the need for this type of training and providing teachers with the necessary training in this area. This third project, referred to as TRAIN-EDUC, seeks to provide teachers with the necessary course material. The Commission is, therefore, seeking a contractor who, together with at least four European universities, as a kick-off project on an experimental basis, can develop and test a methodology for introducing training concerning electronic information provision into course curricula. A priori, but subject to the contractor's offer, the Commission believes it is necessary to develop three course modules: - A general module concerning electronic information provision; - A "global" subject-specialized module, adapted to the subject areas dealt with by the four collaborating university departments; - A "local" module adapted to the subject areas of the individual departments. The project itself will consist of the following five phases: - Analysis of information needs and basic initial training of the participating university departments; - Development of the general module and the 'globally' specialized module; - Development of the "locally" specialized modules; - Production of a lecturer's manual; - Implementation of modules in normal curricula; - Evaluation of the project.
