The European Commission, DG XXII, has published a report entitled "Transnational placements: Impact and potential". This report is one of several publications produced by the European Commission with the aim of valorizing the experiences and results of the various actions of the PETRA programme - the European Community programme in support of the initial vocational training of young people and their preparation for adult working life. Over the years, a wealth of experience in transnational vocational mobility has been gained through Community programmes such as the Young Workers' Exchange programme, the LINGUA programme and the PETRA programme. The aim of this publication is to demonstrate the impact and potential of transnational training and work experience placements in relation to both the young people who participate and the national vocational policies and systems. In particular, it highlights the concrete experiences and outcomes of transnational training and work experience placements which already exist. The report is intended as a background document for decision makers at European, national, regional, local and/or sectoral level as well as for others concerned with vocational training provision. It aims to assist them in the preparation and planning of future transnational vocational mobility activities, particularly in view of opportunities offered through the LEONARDO DA VINCI programme.
