The European Commission has published a booklet entitled "Introduction to COST cooperation". As the title suggests, this publication gives a general introduction to the COST framework for European cooperation in the field of scientific and technical research. COST cooperation was set up in 1971 and now includes 25 countries (the 15 EU Member States, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Slovenia and Croatia) and the European Commission. The Commission publication includes information on the background of COST, the types and areas of collaborative research covered by COST and the structures of COST cooperation. It also includes a list of COST activities and the addresses of COST national coordinators and the COST Secretariat.
