Parliament discusses proposed guidelines for trans-European telecommunications networks
The European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Industrial Policy has adopted a report on the Commission's proposal for a European Parliament and Council Decision on a series of guidelines for trans-European telecommunications networks. This proposes a number of amendments to the original proposal, primarily aimed at ensuring that issues such as regional cohesion, social exclusion and cultural acceptance are adequately addressed. The Committee also calls for changes in the decision-making procedure proposed by the Commission. Following formal adoption in plenary, the Committee's Report will be forwarded to the Commission and Council, the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.
