The European Commission has published its Decision of 10 April 1996 on the reorganization of the Joint Research Centre. The Decision stipulates that the JRC is to become an independent Directorate-General of the Commission. The organs of the JRC will be: - A Director-General, located in Brussels, who will be responsible for the activities of the JRC institutes and services, and for execution of the specific RTD programmes to be implemented by the JRC; - A Board of Governors, which will deal in particular with proposals for the JRC's RTD programmes; - A scientific committee, which will be regularly consulted by the Director-General on all questions of a scientific or technical nature.
