The European Commission has published preliminary results of the call for proposals launched under the Standards, Measurement and Testing (SMT) specific RTD programme of the Fourth Framework Programme (1994-1998), published on 15 June 1995 (OJ No C 148 of 15.6.1995). A total of 414 proposals were received for RTD actions (see RTD-News RCN 4361). Of these, 164 were for research related to written standards and technical support to trade (Theme II), and 250 for measurements related to the needs of society (Theme III). A total of 395 fulfilled the conditions necessary to undergo evaluation, and of these 122 were recommended for funding with no, or only minor, changes required. Seventeen proposals for networks were submitted, of which 12 were recommended for funding, either at step one (feasibility award) or step two (implementation award). As a result of the call for proposals in support of Community policies (see RTD-News RCN 4360), 50 proposals were received in the 34 topics published, of which 21 were recommended for funding with no, or only minor, changes required. The Commission intends to publish the list of projects selected once the project coordinators have been contacted.
