The European Commission, DG XII, invites interested parties to submit proposals for research training grants under the specific RTD programme in the field of non-nuclear energy (JOULE/THERMIE) (1994-1998). The RTD activities covered by this call relate to the following areas of the work programme: - Area 1: RTD strategy for energy - Area 2: Rational use of energy - Area 3: Renewable energy sources - Area 4: Fossil fuels The main objective of the individual research training grants is to provide postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers with opportunities for advanced training, exchanges and mobility in the field of non-nuclear energy. The aim is to encourage industrial organizations receiving funding for non-nuclear energy projects under the Fourth Framework Programme to take on qualified (postgraduate and postdoctoral) researchers who have not yet worked full time in an industrial organization in order to give them training in the form of active participation in research directly related to the projects. The research subjects covered by the training grants are those given in the work programme. Applicants must be nationals of an EU Member State or of a state associated with the programme. They must carry out their research in an EU country or a state associated with the programme other than the country of their nationality or normal activities. Candidates' qualifications will be an important selection criteria. Whether the qualification held by a candidate is a postgraduate (category 20) or a postdoctoral degree (category 30) is of lesser importance. Preference will be given to proposals where: - The candidate has not yet worked full time in an industrial organization; - An important role is to be given to the grant holder in a new research task which will give added value to the project in which the host institution will be taking part; - The host institution proposed is an industrial organization taking part in a non-nuclear energy project funded under the Fourth Framework Programme; - The host institution is a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME); - The host institution has not yet had a grant holder who meets the abovementioned criteria. Requests for information (including application forms) should be sent to: European Commission DG XII - Science, research and development Directorate F - Non-nuclear energy 200 rue de la Loi (MO75 6/12) B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2950656 Applications for research training grants should be sent to: European Commission DG XII - Science, research and development Research training grants - Receipt 75 rue Montoyer (5/15) B-1040 Brussels
