The European Commission, DG XIII, has published the final evaluation report of the IMPACT II programme for information market policy actions, which ran from 1991 to 1995. The report finds that the programme achieved its overall objectives and offered value-for-money in its results. In view of the rapidly changing environment in the information market, the report finds that the programme had to be continuously adapted. These changes were carried out successfully and within the budgetary constraints. The programme had four action lines, as follows: - Improving the understanding of the information market; - Overcoming legal barriers; - Standards and quality issues; increasing user-friendliness and improving information literacy; - Strategic information initiatives. The IMPACT II programme has now been replaced by the INFO2000 programme, which aims to stimulate the development and use of multimedia content in Europe. It runs from 1 January 1996 to 31 December 1999.
