Feasibility study on mandatory discharge system for ships' waste to shore facilities
The European Commission, DG VII, has launched a restricted call to tender for a feasibility study on a mandatory discharge system for ships' waste to shore reception facilities in ports. The study should investigate the zero-discharge concept for oil and other harmful substances from ships and focus on structural measures such as waste prevention, recycling and closed-loop processes. The study will also contain legal, economic, operational, technical and environmental aspects of mandatory disposal of ships' waste to shore reception facilities. Financing systems of shore reception facilities must also be included. The contract should last for nine months. The Commission will invite around ten to fifteen consultants to bid for the study, on the basis of requests to participate received.
