A new RTD information service for the Irish Presidency of the European Council of Ministers has been launched on the CORDIS World Wide Web server. The new 'Irish Presidency Home Page' was created in order to assist in the dissemination of information on important developments taking place in the area of research and technological development (RTD) during the current six-month Irish Council Presidency. Commenting on the new service, Mr. Pat Rabbitte, Irish Minister for Commerce, Science and Technology, said: "I believe that this facility will enable the S&T (Science and Technology) Community across the globe to access information on the current status of the various research topics likely to be featured at Research Councils (7 October and 5 December 1996)." In order to promote Presidency objectives of transparency and openness, the new service will provide quick access to RTD programme implementation activities, political developments within the research committees and other key events and actions taking place. Information provided by the new service will include speeches made by Mr. Rabbitte during the Presidency, a calendar of research and research-related activities and events, a news update service designed to keep interested parties informed of Presidency developments, information on the status of the EU's 5th Framework RTD Programme scheduled to kick off in 1998, and an interactive 'Bulletin Board Service' on the 5th Framework Programme, for citizen comments and questions.
