The Information Society Project Office (ISPO) of the European Commission has established a Web page with links to the winners of the European World Wide Web Business Awards. The award ceremony was held at the Commission-sponsored "Business on the Web" Forum for SMEs, held in Paris in May 1996. The awards aimed to generate visibility for the best business implementation of the WWW and, more generally, European achievements in this area. The winners were as follows: - Best overall Web site: "Nua - New thinking for the digital age", an Irish company providing innovative Web services; - Very small business category: "Web House", a Danish company providing Web services for the Port of Aarhus; - Small and medium-sized business category: "Prous Science", a Spanish-based company which aims to encourage communication and discussion among scientists and disseminate information on R&D in drugs; - Corporate category: "GEN - Global Engineering Network", a European electronic marketplace for engineering know-how and information. Operated by leading industrial companies and research institutes; - Best WWW achievement in job creation: The "Serveur Emploi Cadres CICA", a French server providing access to job vacancies and assistance in job-hunting; - Special jury 'Wild Card' award: "E. Botham and Sons", an English company providing biscuits and cakes.
