Advisory Committee on Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work
The Community's Advisory Committee on Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work has recently published its 20th annual report. The Committee, established in 1974, assists the Commission in the preparation and implementation of activities in the fields of safety, hygiene and health protection at work. It is composed of representatives of the Member States, and of the employers and workers in each Member State. The Committee generally operates through a number of ad hoc groups in relevant fields, including research. During 1995, the Committee adopted a number of opinions: - On a standardization mandate for CEN on specifications and testing conditions for fire-resistant hydraulic fluids used for power transmission; - On criteria for research projects relating to safety, hygiene and health, under the Fourth RTD Framework Programme; - On proposals for urgent research projects in support of Community policies, in the area of skin protection. Other items discussed during 1995 included: the Member States' transposal of the framework Directive on health and safety at work; the establishment of the European Agency for Health and Safety at Work; and the Commission's proposal for a programme in the field of safety, hygiene and health at work (1996-2000).
