The European Commission, DG XI, intends to award a study contract for the comparative evaluation of the criteria laid down by the competent authorities in the Member States for the acceptance of refuse in the different categories of waste-disposal sites.

This will concern, in particular:

- Comparative evaluation of the classes of refuse, of lists of acceptable and non-acceptable refuse, of limiting values and methods of analysis which are laid down for certain characteristics;
- Identification of the target values of each criterion in relation to environmental protection;
- Identification of the relevant legal provisions, of the competent authority levels (local, regional, national) and an outline of the various methodologies adopted for setting out criteria;
- Descriptions of checkpoints at waste-disposal sites;
- Proposals for the Community-wide harmonization of criteria.

The study must be completed within a period of six months from the contract signature.
