Expressions of interest are sought by the Commission of the European Communities for the setting up and managing of a multilingual European database on higher education (including open distance higher education). This database is to be available in a number of forms including hard copy and electronic media, and should provide for on line consultation both in ASCII and Videotex. The Commission will provide the selected tenderer with a maximum subsidy of 50% of the annual cost of setting up the system and managing it during the three years following award of the contract, it being a requirement that the successful tenderer maintain the system for at least five years from the date of its commission. The Commission will also furnish all existing information on the structural characteristics of the higher education establishments in the Community, as available from the ERASMUS, COMETT and TEMPUS programmes, plus other information collected in the context of Community programmes on higher education. Aware that it may not find one body which fulfils the requirements of this project, the Commission is prepared to consider expressions of interest from established or ad hoc consortia.
