Standards, Measurement and Testing - Call for proposals
The European Commission, DG XII, has launched a call for proposals for projects under the specific RTD programme in the field of Standards, Measurement and Testing (SMT). The call is for proposals for shared-cost RTD projects under the following specific themes of the programme: - Theme I: Measurements for quality European products; - Theme II: Research related to written standards and technical support to trade; - Theme III: Measurements related to the needs of society. The present call is restricted to the following RTD subjects, identified by the Commission as necessary for the support of the development or implementation of Community policy, including European standardization: - Category I: Subjects related to the standardization activities of CEN: . 1. Development of a single pan-European freeze/thaw test for the clay roofing tiles standard; . 2. Launderability of textile items in wet cleaning systems and dry cleanability of textile items in hydrocarbon solvents: machine test; . 3. Antiseptics and disinfectants. Test requirements for activity testing in the medical, veterinary, food, institutional and domestic areas, and collaborative trials; . 4. Safety of toys with long hair and/or with fur pile fabric covering and pompons; . 5. Preparation of test specimens for mix design and evaluation of conformity of hot-mix asphalt; . 6. Development of models for performance assessment of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems; . 7. Oilseeds - determination of hexane extract, peroxide value, impurities content, sterol fraction, ultra-violet absorbance and oil content; . 8. The development and validation of test procedures and test tools for children's and infants' lifejackets, buoyancy and swimming-aids; . 9. Development of a basis for 3-D surface roughness standards; . 10. Determination of fumonisins at levels of interest for future EU legislation; . 11. Control and calibration of timber-grading machines; . 12. Glued-in rods in timber structures; . 13. Protective clothing - combined puncture and tear propagation test method; . 14. Determination of 180/160 ratio in fruit juices, sugars by isotopic mass spectrometry; . 15. New criteria for the evaluation of fruit juices: Collaborative studies of HPLC determination; . 16. Determination of the thermal resistance of walls (masonry) in dry and moist state and of a conversion procedure to get the appropriate design value; . 17. Detection of irradiated food containing crystalline sugar; - Category II: Subjects related to the standardization activities of CENELEC: . 18. Development of testing procedures for the definition of special internal ignition risks with high-voltage rotating machinery; . 19. Development and testing of test-apparatus for apparatus to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres and operating with electrical currents greater than 2 amperes; . 20. Measuring methods of the influence of electrical parameters in the installation built up under the protection mode 'i' intrinsic safety; . 21. Measurement of non-linear sources of electrical power used in the construction and/or measurement of apparatus for potentially explosive atmospheres; . 22. Measurement of parameters characterizing the risk and protection modes for installations in potentially explosive atmospheres; . 23. Airport systems - Definition and measurement of levels of electromagnetic disturbances; . 24. Definition of measuring methods to verify and guarantee the safety and operation of systems for optical beaconing of airports; . 25. Measurement of interferences in the infra-red communication system (cableless interconnection of computers and other office facilities); . 26. Measuring methods and calibration procedure for laser doppler flow meters for the determination of blood perfusion in tissue (LDBP monitoring and imaging); - Category III: Methods development in support of Community policy: . 27. Development of a harmonized test method for the detection of certain aromatic amines in leather due to the use of azo dyes; . 28. Detection of non-milk protein in milk powder; . 29. Determination of added casein/caseinate in cheese and processed cheese; . 30. Sensory evaluation of butter: collaborative test for the determination of repeatability and reproducibility, development of reference materials with defined sensory defects; . 31. Determination of the total bacterial count of skimmed milk powder: collaborative test, development of reference materials; . 32. Development of certified reference materials (CRMs) for compound feedingstuffs; . 33. Development and validation of HPLC methods for the official control of coccidiostats and antibiotics used as feed additives; . 34. Determination of standard leaching rate for all active substances used in anti-fouling products. For each of the above subjects a document has been produced detailing the objectives to be met. This must be requested together with the programme Information Package before attempting to develop a proposal. Proposals for research objectives other than those listed above will not be accepted.
