IPTS Report - March 1997 edition
The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) has published the March 1997 edition of "The IPTS Report", its monthly technology watch magazine. This latest issue of "The IPTS Report" contains articles on a variety of issues ranging from energy policy to the implications of the growth of the World Wide Web. The need for electric utilities to expand their scope of activities from electricity provision to energy services generally is examined, and a strategy for the intelligent management of energy use proposed. The Report also looks at a recently proposed technology policy scheme to deal with the intermediate (as opposed to basic or applied) areas of research. Other articles look at the TRIPs global agreement on trade issues relating to intellectual property, at the growth of multimedia interactivity on the Internet, and at the development of new environment and health-friendly food packaging techniques.
