Environmentally friendly metals

The environment is sometimes plagued by the presence of highly toxic and carcinogenic polluting agents. This most often occurs near industrial developments. A method is being studied to stop these toxins before they leave the factory.

The degradation of harmful pollutants before they reach the environment is imperative to maintain a healthy ecosystem. A team of researchers have set up a testing chamber to analyse the reaction processes that lead to detoxification of noxious materials. Metal catalysts are being used to denature the toxins. It has been found that a naturally occurring compound of Aluminium and Silicate is particularly effective in neutralising the threat and uses a technique less dangerous to the operator than conventional methods. Further work is needed to determine the exact reasons for the differences in reactions of catalysts and to find the one that works the best.
