Storage of mudflat data
The collection of field data on all aspects of mudflat morphology creates large amounts of raw information. The INTRMUD database contains detailed field information that can be retrieved by any individual regardless of their discipline. The database consists of a general information section that holds sheets of data that identify the field distribution of geographic area, instruments and parameters used in the collection of the field experimental information. These sheets are called EDMED. Separate datasheets for the actual measurements of physical and biological data are located in a different part of the database. The final section of the database is resource papers regarding classification of the mudflats. The database currently contains about 200 EDMED forms with the processed data instantly available and the original data accessible from the field dataset. Information in this database will be used for the development of engineering applications within estuaries and muddy coastlines. Models of the processes that influence mudflats will be created using data recorded for erodability, sedimentary characteristics and spatial/temporal changes in the mudflat bed level. The database will reach a multi-disciplinary audience from engineers and geographers to marine biologists.
