ARIADNE's Thread on the Web
ARIADNE (Alliance of Remote Instructional Authoring and Distribution Networks for Europe) intends to increase the use of computers and network components in educational facilities. At its heart lies the so-called Knowledge Pool System; a web like combination of multilingual, educational databases along with the various functional tools it provides. These tools fit into two basic groups; the authoring tools and the core tools. Within the first category lie tools that allow for the construction of simulated environments, designed to create goal-orientated courseware materials. The second element to the authoring tools is the questionnaire tool which allows pedagogical authorities to build and generate computerized test environments that can include, but are not limited to, some of the following; essay, free text form, graphic-point and select on an image, fill-in missing words, complete the sentence, multiple choice, numerical inputs and true/false responses. Thirdly, ARIADNE's core tools allows for ad-hoc administrative functions like adding text, design of course outlines and storage of pertinent documents, (both of an active and expository nature) as well as construction and amendments to curricula activities. ARIADNE addresses the need of education for a broad category of people. It will make the most advanced educational facilities available for remote or geographically isolated individuals, as well as provide a suitable platform for corporate or private individuals wishing to enhance their professional skills. Additionally, it will enhance current educational facilities, allowing them to become more globally competitive and to provide a guiding thread that'll lead to greater educational access
