Euro-Mediterranean energy forum
The first meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Energy Forum will be held in Brussels, on 13 May 1997. The Forum has been established following the ministerial conference in June 1996, which agreed that the Forum should constitute a framework to ensure continuity of dialogue at political and expert level among all the partners, as well as promoting projects of common interest. The Forum consists of representatives of the twelve Mediterranean partners, the Commission and the EU Council Presidency. EU Member States and the European Investment Bank may also participate as observers. The first meeting of the Forum is expected to set up the rules of functioning, examine the energy situation of the partners and prospects for cooperation, and give its views on the practical establishment of cooperation in the energy field. As the Forum has no budget of its own, the implementation of cooperation is dependent on a variety of sources of funding.
