A new wizard for movie magic

Digital video editing, as the amateur home director will discover, is not as simple as one would have imagined. Complex scenic constructs, timelines, 3- dimensional views and lighting, morphing, story flow and characterisation are but a few of the complexities one has to master to make even the most "user-friendly" program work the way it's "sort of" supposed to.

Most video editors are usually highly complex tools. It takes more than a while to get one's teeth around the technical capabilities and functions of an editing programme before one's more creative elements can be fully explored. Technical issues such as scenic elements, rendering, textures, camera positioning, perspective, time lines and story flow, are but a few of the hurdles one has to leap. Too much for the creative whiz who wants to explore their creative potential, rather than programme complexities through help files and wizards. VIZARD is the next generation video publishing tool. It comprises three main features designed with one express idea in mind, to keep it simple. With three internal applications, the VIZARD presents unprecedented potential. The VExplorer, VPublisher and the VAnnotator are in short used for searching image databases, storyboard production and for annotating video material consecutively. Basically, VIZARD introduces a new method to edit video, from planning stages all the way through to production. With the VExplorer for example, one can organise, store, search for and manage local content through a highly structured, logical views. These views defined by hierarchical sets, representing temporal orders, allow for the easy drafting of a story or a sketch within the VPublisher. The VPublisher is the advanced storyboard feature. This feature allows for the editing of the inner-structure of a document. Using a unique video-book archetype that presents a new editing methodology, this editing exercise is as easy as writing a block of text. By breaking away from the traditional time-line representation of video content and adding meta-information to the layout, users will be able to work with hyper-video representations to develop personalised video collections. Finally, the VAnnotator is the third component of the VIZARD that allows for different views of the materials being edited and annotated. The integral concept behind this feature lies in the video lenses. These offer different views on all annotated materials, providing a visual preview of the outcome of the result. The timeline paradigm, which the tool follows, offers the opportunity for any track to possesses several annotations.
