Real time travel solutions - web based
Similar to the UTC (Urban Traffic Control) system, this toolkit uses the OMNI (Open Model For Network-wide Heterogeneous Intersection-based Transport Management) platform as its base application. The OMNI project began by developing individual heterogeneous intersections that would work as software building blocks for future subsystems thus minimizing inefficiencies while maximizing infrastructure re-use. The toolkit and the technology developed can be used to design a web-based traveler’s information system. It is compatible with maps of any format displaying streets of an urban area. It must be stressed that this toolkit can function independently from the system that provides the traffic data, which in the case of the Chania prototype, is the Siemens MIGRA system. Additional innovative features include pinpointing street addresses and facilities for answering questions of “how can I get from here to there”. The benefits of such independent operations thus mean this toolkit can be applied to any digital mapping sequence regardless of the software technology used for capturing the traffic data.
