The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender (Ref. XI E.3 970018) for a study contract relating to the evaluation of waste management plans in the Member States of the European Union. The study, which is to cover the 15 Member States of the European Union, will involve: - Providing an inventory of the content of waste-management plans which have been established at local, regional or national level within Member States and sent to the Commission (Article 7 of Directive 75/442/EEC); - Specifying whether these waste-management plans contain the different elements which are required under Directive 75/442/EEC (as amended); - Enumerating all other aspects which the waste-management plans include, in particular as regards the estimated costs of the recovery and disposal operations and the measures taken to encourage rationalization of the collection, sorting and treatment of waste; - Presenting quantities and types of waste covered by the programmes in comparable tables. The study must be completed within 12 months from the date of signature of the contract. Tenderers should have a demonstrable experience in the evaluation of waste-management issues and of waste-technology questions.
