A customised photo album that is viewable on TV and geared for the elderly population has been designed.

The elderly are often confined to their homes, living a very solitary life with little to occupy their hours. Thus, taking this into consideration SAID (Social Aid Interactive Developments) has developed a group of telematic services via Digital TV infrastructure and intelligent Software Agents. The overall aim is to make the lives of senior citizens easier through social support that keeps them connected to their friends and loved ones. It also helps to make the digital demands of modern everyday life more accessible. This was accomplished through the use of an open platform based on Digital TV in which a configurable number of services can be offered according to the desired needs. Some of these include services include videoconferencing, surveillance, alarms, entertainment and household services. In fact, one particular application they developed has the ability to show classified groups of images. It can actually be tailored as a photo album and its user interface is very easy to use. The user can see the photos directly on the TV screen. Furthermore the images are housed in a database found either at the user's decoder or centralised at the system server, which makes it convenient. Thus, the elderly can enjoy photos of family and friends and also view their collections.
