Advancing the foundry industry online
Utilising rapid prototyping models and simulation software in the foundry industry has contributed to advancements regarding the marketing of new products, cost savings, feeding design and the opening of new markets. The purpose of these models was to encourage the utilisation of standard operations as well as to examine environmental issues involved in the foundry industry. Following this, the results needed to be circulated across Europe. This has been achieved at two different levels: a public area and a restricted area. The restricted area, or member's section, contained deliverables in six work packages and from meeting minutes as well as information from the companies taking part in SARE. The public area involves the SARE website which contains various components. Some of these include rapid prototyping, simulation, newsletters and environmental aspects. The data provided by the website can be utilised to expand new technology use in other foundries and institutions as well. Overall, the main users encompass precision foundries, rapid prototyping bureaus and research institutions.
