Urban traffic solutions via a network server

New ways of disseminating traffic information for drivers and addressing the best possible solution to reach a destination are being sought.

During traffic jams and other crisis situations while driving a car, it's helpful to have some solutions available. Thus, an itinerary for traffic re-routing has been designed, consisting of a street network with basic information that is accessible via servers. The main objective is to get from point A to point B. General solutions are simple but the challenge is in providing further information regarding current traffic concerns and ensuring that they are available in a consistent manner. Inconsistencies may arise from comparing a static model with that of locally incompatible sub-paths. Thus, the solution is to temporarily set aside such models. Consistent solutions have been proposed through the help of algorithms which have the advantage to take any local information into consideration, even if it is incomplete. Collecting local traffic data could help pinpoint where the traffic jams are located. This information could well serve certain organisations that are concerned with urban traffic such as municipalities, police authorities and taxi fleets.
