Detecting oil on water

An automatic water borne pollution detector for oil-on-water detection which can aid in industrial environmental management has been designed.

Water is an important element to be protected as well as a resource with great economic value. Due to the fact that water resources are becoming scarce, it is of utmost importance that water pollution be avoided. In light of this, a new sensor for industrial water treatment has been designed The new automatic water borne pollution detector is low in cost and of a general-purpose nature. Although it is particularly designed for oil-on-water detection, it may also be applied to a wide range of water pollution problems. In addition to being adaptable, the system is affordable and can make an important contribution to industrial environmental management. Hence it is industrially competitive and likely to be readily adopted by manufacturing companies across Europe. The system can detect significant substances such as diesel, jet fuel, creosol, crude oil, aromatic solvents, lubricating oil and fuel oil. Thus, it can make a substantial contribution to disaster avoidance for example in the case of ship ballast tanks. By safeguarding water quality and the environment, it can contribute to the health and welfare of people across Europe, while also integrating sustainable development.
