Innovative learning support

Best practice guidelines which summarise collected experience across European companies demonstrating the feasibility of smart spaces for learning have been developed.

Smart learning spaces are educational service mediators. They allow the use of heterogeneous learning services through assessment tools, learning management systems, educational (meta) repositories and live delivery systems, such as video conferencing systems. The EC-funded ELENA project has designed a smart learning space containing a dynamic learner profile, which includes learning history, learner specific information and learning goals as part of its central design element. Through this interconnection of learning services, learners can become more empowered because they can choose from various knowledge sources, which tailor their individual learning goals. Thus ELENA has prepared for the increase in educational service markets and new service value chains. The guidelines will illuminate the way in which ELENA results can help to make use of the concept of smart spaces for learning. The guidelines can be applied in future consultancy work. Since organisations are continuously looking for new ways to elaborate and facilitate the client and employee training support, the expertise gathered will be invaluable.
