Implementing e-business in extended enterprises

The e-Volution software toolkit, consisting of stand alone tools and an integration platform, supports the efficient application of an e-business road mapping methodology.

The dominant internet technologies coupled with the need for more dynamic, open, flexible and collaborative business environments have led to the development of new business concepts. As such, an extended enterprise constitutes a modern business environment that is capable of adequately responding to the complex dynamics of today's networked economy. A key prerequisite for the successful operation of an extended enterprise is the development of a well-established information infrastructure for provision of services. Motivated by this, the E-VOLUTION II project focused on creating an innovative management methodology that supports extended enterprises in their implementation process of e-business strategies. One of the key project results involves the development of the e-Volution software toolkit's integration platform. The platform allows the extraction of analysis results coming from two modules, namely the organisation and market modules. Apart from the connection functionality the platform offers increased potentialities to the user to create graphical entities. More specifically, the user can develop business scenarios out of concepts, attributes and relationships between the concepts. Moreover, these scenarios can be also visualised with the aid of graphical representations, which can further form ontologies. Exploitation of these ontologies empowers the user to develop and apply simple operations to actual data and build business strategies.
