The European Commission, DG XIII, has published an invitation to tender, within the Multilingual Information Society (MLIS) programme, concerning an assessment of the economic and social impact of multilingualism in Europe The European Commission is inviting tenders for a study on the language market in the European Economic Area (EEA). This call relates to Action line 4.1 of the MLIS workplan. The project is divided into two parts: - a) Assessment of the translation market: starting from information available, the research will embrace all aspects of multilingual transfer activities, including text translation, interpretation, software localization and multimedia versioning; - b) Assessment and monitoring of the market for multilingual tools and services: starting from available information about language technology products and services, the study will assess and monitor the deployment of useful and commercially promising products and services on networks over a given period of time. The contractor shall report on the results for each phase of the research and forward recommendations to the market operators. A dissemination scheme should be included. The contract should be carried out within 30 months.
