The European Commission has published a call for proposals for RTD actions (preparatory, accompanying and support measures) to be carried out within the framework of the European Network for Research into Global Change (ENRICH). The call, launched within the framework of the specific programmes in the fields of Environment and Climate, and Marine Science and Technology (MAST), covers the following areas of the respective Work Programmes: - Environment and Climate: . Area 1: Research into the natural environment, environmental quality and global change (Global Change aspects); . Area 2: Environmental technologies (Global Change aspects); . Area 3: Space techniques applied to environmental monitoring and research (Global Change aspects); . Area 4: Human dimensions of environmental change (Global Change aspects); - Marine Science and Technology: . Area A: Marine science (Global Change aspects); . Area B: Strategic marine research (Global Change aspects); . Area C: Marine technology (Global Change aspects); . Area D: Supporting initiatives (Global Change aspects). Research projects will not be supported as part of the ENRICH activities under this call. This call relates to preparatory, accompanying and support measures such as: strengthening cooperative links and networks, exchange of data and scientific information, building research capacity to address specified issues, identifying regional gaps and priorities to improve the integrated knowledge of global change processes and impacts, and contributions to the development of science agendas or science plans. The financial participation of the Community may be up to 100% of the costs of these preparatory, accompanying and support measures. Technical Guidelines for the ENRICH-related preparatory, accompanying and support measures are available from the Commission on written request. Potential participants will be able to check, with the services concerned of the Commission, that their proposal is in accordance with the objectives of the programme and with the eligibility criteria before formally submitting their proposal. This pre-checking service will close on 1 December 1997. In order to facilitate participation of organizations from the Central and Eastern European Countries, the countries of the former Soviet Union, and from developing countries, Community financial support may be made available.
