TEMPUS Guide for applicants - PHARE 1998-2000
The European Commission, DG XXII, has published an updated Guide for applicants relating to the TEMPUS programme for cooperation in higher education with the PHARE partner countries for the academic years 1998-1999 and 1999-2000. TEMPUS PHARE provides financial grants for cooperative projects between higher education establishments in the EU and the partner countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Projects are carried out in priority areas defined by the partner countries' authorities and the Commission. The new Guidelines for applicants set out the priority areas to be supported in each country in the next two academic years. The main forms of activities will be Joint European Projects (JEPs) and Individual Mobility Grants (IMGs). The Joint European Projects, which must involve at least one PHARE country institution and institutions from two Member States, now fall into two categories: - Academic JEPs: focused on the development of new courses or curricula or the review of existing ones; - University Management JEPs: involve administrators and managers and may concentrate on strategic management or day-to-day management issues. Individual Mobility Grants may be awarded to administrators and managers for training and to teaching staff for study visits. Travel is possible for both East and West European staff.
