The European Union has concluded two Agreements with the Republic of Korea relating to telecommunications procurement: an Agreement on telecommunications procurement and an Agreement in the form of a memorandum concerning procurement by private telecommunications operators. The Agreement on telecommunications procurement, which came into force on 1 November 1997, is aimed at securing reciprocal, transparent and non-discriminatory access for EU and Korean suppliers and service providers to the procurement of products and incidental services supplied by designated telecommunications operators. The additional Memorandum, also effective as of 1 November, concerns procurement by private telecommunications operators.
