The latest edition of the CORDIS (Community Research and Development Information Service) CD-ROM, containing all information on the nine on-line CORDIS databases up to the end of the third quarter 1997, is now available. The CORDIS CD-ROM, updated every quarter, is a valuable and convenient tool for those wishing to retrieve information on Community R&D. It provides instant access to all the information contained in the CORDIS databases, without the expenses related to using the on-line service. Users of the CD-ROM may, for example, conduct a detailed search for partners, research results, projects or publications without incurring additional expenditure, and will also have records which are consulted regularly, such as the RTD Programmes database, directly to hand. Other information available on the CD-ROM includes the archive of the CORDIS RTD News service and contact details for those involved in Community RTD policy-making and management. Also included are the acronyms and Comdocuments databases, which allow users to find RTD-related acronyms and Commission policy documents. The CD-ROM runs on the Watch CORDIS software which may also be used to access the on-line databases. This is included on the CD-ROM. The Watch CORDIS system is designed for a Windows environment, and allows users to enter queries simply and quickly. Users with on-line access to CORDIS can also combine searches on the CD-ROM with on-line material, allowing access to the latest information in the databases, yet still reducing communications costs.
