TERRA - 14 regional/spatial planning projects adopted
The European Commission has approved 14 regional/spatial planning projects to receive support under the TERRA programme, one of the ERDF Article 10 innovative actions. TERRA projects bring together networks of local and regional authorities to carry out innovative or demonstration pilot projects. The pilot projects are aimed at particularly vulnerable areas, including: - Rural areas to which access is difficult; - Areas subject to erosion, desertification or forest fires; - Mountainous, coastal and island areas and river basins; - Areas where natural or cultural assets are endangered. The 14 projects were selected following a call for proposals launched in April 1996. A total of 142 local and regional authorities responded to the call. The 14 projects will last for two or three years. In addition, the Commission has also launched four pilot projects covering wider areas: - Northern periphery (Denmark, Finland and Sweden); - Eastern Alps (Austria, Germany and Italy); - Central and Eastern Mediterranean (Greece and Italy); - Portugal and Spain.
