Standardization projects for industrial competitiveness and modernization of administrations - ISIS and SPRITE-S2

The European Commission, DG III, is organizing an information day on standardization projects, to be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 29 June 1998. The event will focus on the upcoming call for proposals in the area of "Standardization projects in the support of industrial competitiveness and modernization of administrations (ISIS and SPRITE-S2)". It will, in particular, provide a forum for the clarification of the work programme and the identification of possible partners.

The call for proposals, which is expected to be published in mid-June 1998, will involve two major types of actions:

- Application/development, validation and demonstration;
- Awareness-building and promotion.

The information day will introduce the objectives of the call, describe the themes of work, and present the implementation procedures to be followed. This will be followed by a presentation of the specific objectives and themes of ISIS:
- Electronic commerce;
- Multimedia systems;
- Teleworking;
- Transport;
- Bioinformatics.

The themes and objectives of SPRITE-S2 will then be presented, covering:
- Procurement methodologies and tools in response to evolving market conditions;
- User groups with emerging special needs;
- Benchmarking techniques at work;
- Topical issues on ICT procurement;
- Education and awareness.

During the afternoon session, participants will be given the opportunity to present their organization and their interests in relation to ISIS or SPRITE-S2. This will ensure the exchange of ideas and help to identify potential partners in order to form consortia.
