3 November 1998 - 3 November 1998
Belgium
The BCR 25th Anniversary conference, organised by the Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) programme, will now be held on 3 and 4 November 1998, in Brussels, Belgium. In addition to the change of date, the conference programme has also been modified, with greater focus to be placed on strategic topics.

The conference marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Community Bureau of Reference (known by its French acronym, BCR) in the early 1970s, which formalised the European Community's role in measurement-related work. In particular, the event will encourage debate not only on the achievements of the BCR programme and its successors, but also on trends in standards, measurements and testing activities within the upcoming Fifth RTD Framework Programme. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with potential partners, and discuss ideas informally with Commission staff. The conference and related discussions will be of interest to many decision-makers and potential participants in the new Programme.

An exhibition, which will run for the duration of the conference, will display information on current projects under the SMT programme, and on other institutional activities, such as the Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS), the Joint Research Centre, and other DG XII activities.

The previous dates announced for the conference were 9 to 13 November 1998; further information on the programme can be found in RTD-News RCN 9799.
