A two-day technology trade fair on microencapsulation and bioencapsulation will be held in Nancy, France, on 27 and 28 October 1998. The event will be organised under the auspices of Action 840 of the COST initiative for European cooperation in the field of scientific and technical research. This Action specifically relates to the development and application of entrapment or encapsulation of biologically active materials in a range of sectors such as food, agriculture, medicine and cosmetics.

Encapsulation is a response to the problems associated with fragile material protection and immobilisation of enzymes, cells and aroma, etc. It requires multidisciplinary knowledge, and the industrial applications of encapsulation are still limited in potential. The aim of the symposium is to provide an opportunity for different potential partners to meet and initiate further collaborations in this field.

The symposium will deliver lectures on the applied aspects of encapsulation and information will be provided regarding support available to industrial projects and SMEs. In addition meetings between potential partners may be prearranged on the basis of a directory to be compiled before the event.
